First KiLleR jaunt
Besides the 800 mile ride from New Jersey to Chicago to bring the KiLleR home, I just ventured out on it for the first time..
I had been planning to install a highly specialized tool storage tube on the skid plate of the KLR; all I had to do was find some black PVC pipe, a couple of hose clamps & some test plugs..

Come to find out, there isn't a Lowes store within 70 miles of Chicago that stocks the pipe! So off I went to Michigan City Indiana.. The good news is that my route would take me right along the southern shore of Lake Michigan & through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.. somewhere I've been meaning to check out for quite a while..
The route through South Chicago and Hammond & Gary, IN proved to be fairly lackluster.. unless, of course, you enjoy riding through dilapidated towns, industrial wasteland, and inner city ghetto, as I sometimes do.
After a couple of hours, I had finally reached the Dunes and the Indiana Dunes Beach.. as it turns out, the route to this area was certainly more thrilling. Almost the entire southwestern shore of Lake Michigan is lined with refineries & other railroad-fed industries.. What a nice, beach-side location for a..... refinery.

Anyway, the day wasn't a total loss.. it was a beautiful day for riding, and I'm always game for a little exploring. As I've learned time and time again, things are very rarely how we perceive them to be..
